This plush re-edition is a tribute to the 1992 Games held in Barcelona.
The mascot’s name, Cobi, is a reference to COOB’92, an abbreviation of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Organising Committee. The name was chosen because it is simple and easy to pronounce in most languages. Designed by artist Javier Mariscal, Cobi is a Catalan sheepdog in a “cubist” style, and was inspired by the work of Picasso. Reactions to Cobi were mixed when he was first introduced, but he grew in popularity during the months leading up to the Games, and ultimately proved a huge success. Cobi went on to have his own TV show and became one of the most profitable mascots in the history of the Olympic Games.
